Per secoli non \u00e8 stato riconosciuto che sommosse, rivoluzioni, guerre, colonialismo, emigrazione fossero esacerbate o addirittura innescate dall'impoverimento di seminativi eccessivamente utilizzati, i cui raccolti sono in calo.<\/p>\n

Una prima, importante intuizione sulla fertilit\u00e0 del suolo ha portato\u00a0Justus v. caro<\/em> (1803 \u2013 1873) con la scoperta del ciclo dei nutrienti nelle piante. Ci\u00f2 ha aperto la possibilit\u00e0 di fornire artificialmente i nutrienti mancanti come potassio, fosforo, azoto, ecc. al fine di aumentare le rese dei terreni impoveriti.<\/p>\n

Mancava ancora la conoscenza dell'importanza della composizione dell'humus e soprattutto della sua complicata vita nel suolo.<\/p>\n

Il biologo che \u00e8 stato molto letto nella prima met\u00e0 del XX secolo Raoul Francia<\/em> (1874 \u2013 1943) coni\u00f2 nel 1912 il termine \u201cEdaphon\u201d (da edaphic = relativo al suolo) e divenne il fondatore dell'ecologia del suolo.<\/p>\n

Dopo molti anni di ricerca, ha pubblicato opere seminali (1 e 2) sull'importanza dell'humus - uno strato spesso solo centimetri sulla terraferma - da cui tutte le creature della terra dipendono direttamente o indirettamente. La sua opera "Life in the Field" \u00e8 stata un bestseller negli anni '20 e '30.<\/p>\n

Dopo la scomparsa di Raoul Francia<\/em> la sua ricerca \u00e8 stata sostenuta dalla moglie Annie<\/em> ha continuato che aveva lavorato con lui per decenni. Annie Franc\u00e9-Harrar<\/em> (1886 \u2013 1971) fece notare nel suo ampio lavoro di quasi 700 pagine (3), pubblicato nel 1950, che von Einstein<\/em> \u00e8 stato ammirato, sottolineando l'importanza dell'humus per il benessere, anche la sopravvivenza dell'umanit\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Un certo numero di altri esperti ha riconosciuto l'importanza dell'humus e l'importanza del mantenimento di terreni sani. Ad esempio, nel 1950 apparve l'allarmante libro "The Earth Takes Its Vengeance" (6), che avvertiva della perdita globale di suolo dovuta alla deforestazione, all'erosione, allo sfruttamento eccessivo e allo sfruttamento eccessivo. Negli anni '70, "G\u00e4rtnern, Arckern ohne Poison" (5) era una Bibbia comune per i giardinieri.<\/p>\n

Quindi non sono mancati riferimenti seri all'importanza dell'humus e alla crescente perdita di terreno fertile in tutto il mondo. Ma questi avvertimenti sono rimasti in gran parte inascoltati nel 21\u00b0 secolo, ad eccezione di alcuni ecologisti e agricoltori biologici interessati alla conservazione e al miglioramento del suolo.<\/p>\n

Nonostante una migliore conoscenza, l'agricoltura convenzionale presta ancora poca attenzione ai microrganismi che sono cos\u00ec importanti nei suoi campi.<\/p>\n

In termini di chimica su larga scala, le rese delle variet\u00e0 vegetali altamente coltivate dovrebbero essere aumentate con fertilizzanti minerali, fungicidi, erbicidi, insetticidi, pesticidi, ecc., che danneggiano piuttosto che promuovere una vita sana del suolo. \u2013<\/p>\n
